Schematic+PCB design

Hello everybody

My aim:
I need to do schematic and PCB design for a TI processor with 1.2 GHz speed and generate gerber files required for PCB fabrication. the board on its own is fairly simple with max 800 pads

Need some help:
I am new to schematic + PCB design from what i understand is kicad can do both schematic and PCB design but what i don’t know is

1.can kicad be used to do schematic + pcb design for high speed processor.

2.how many component libraries does kicad support what if a particular component library/footprint is missing in kicad. how to deal with such a situation.

Regards

  1. Yes, I did a fairly complex board myself (upto 5 Gbps). KiCad has core functionality for high-speed board layout: differential pairs routing and length matching.

  2. Create symbol and footprint yourself

Thanks cioma

i have read some PCB with 6 layers
now i am new to PCB fabrication process

If i understand correct PCB layout can be done on the top layer and the bottom layer only but i have heard some where on the internet that it is a possible to do routing on the middle layers

  1. is it true if so how will the routing be done using middle layers
i.e. from top to middle layer and back to top layer
    bellow is the link
    http://www.bitweenie.com/listings/standard-4-and-6-layer-pcb-stackups/

  2. now i can understand through hole can talk from top to bottom layer because copper signal lines travel through hole till bottom layer but i am failing to understand copper signal from top to middle layer and back to top layer.

and also if it is possible how routing can be achieved using kicad.

Regards

Thanks very much cioma

you almost saved me from big BUCKS

one final question are there any members actively in this forum who can help me make a footprints.
once when i get hands on experience i think i will be able to pick up.

Regards

Well, I suppose if a footprint you need is not available in KiCad library on Github then you can always post a question on this forum asking if anyone have it and could share it with you.

thanks cioma that is superb
this forum has been a good help so far

@Nick123
reading your posts I suggest some beginner stuff for you, as most of you questions are covered in them:
https://kicad.org/help/documentation/#_getting_started

And a video series that covers the basics (sometimes older versions of KiCAD have been used as the program doesn’t stand still) but show you how things ‘work’:
