I’ve just noticed a new plugin named schematic block plugin. It’s strange that it’s called this, as far as I know plugins only appear in PCBnew. Does anyone know how this plugin is meant to work and why a plugin for the schematic editor would appear in PCBnew (I don’t think it even shows up there). Thanks.
Have you considered reading the description, at all?
It does display the description in the PCM
Basically it’s a silly hack
how does this differ from schematic sheets?
From the description that plugin seems to be just a fancy way to copy and paste between schematic sheets.
In KiCad you can have multiple instances of the schematic editor open (with different projects). If there are partial schematics you re-use often in different projects, then it makes sense to collect such snippets in a separate project.
A more advanced version of this would be something called “Design Blocks”, but that has not been implemented yet, due to limited developer resources in the KiCad project. If this is dear to you, you may consider upvoting the following gitlab issues:
(Which currently have 48 and 26 upvotes respectively, which is quite a lot for KiCad).
