I would like to save a part (i.e. part + value + associated PCB decal) from a schematic to a new library. Is that impossible? I think I understood that it was not possible formerly but V6 allows it. Is it correct?
Thanks
In v6.99 there’s the ability to save all symbols of the schematic to a library. v6.99 is in feature freeze since a while ago and perfectly fine to use for real project if you ask me.
On both v6 and v6.99 you have the ability to save a single symbol to a library by selecting “Edit with Symbol Editor” and then “File –> Save As”
Thanks, very useful!
But where to find the 6.99?

The best source for software is normally the original homepage, in this case kicad. For windows: Windows Downloads | KiCad EDA
On the bottom is a link to the v6.99 development builds == nightly version. As you are currently starting with kicad and it’s only for your personal use and the nightly is already relatively good you could directly work with v6.99. (it’s not bugfree currently, but very usable).
My only warning: If you try v6.99 (nightly): the files are not backwards compatible, so after saving with v6.99 you can’t open your schematics+boards+libraries with v6.0.x.
@mf_ibfeew link shown is just fine, but the easiest way to remember wayyyy in the future, is to go to
Help / About Kicad, (on any kicad page). There you will find the link to www.kicad.org, then just follow your nose
