Newbie here, having fun. Looking for someone to point me in the right direction.
Can’t find a SATA 15pin power connector SMT or Through Hole from any suppliers so I can see if they have a symbol, footprint, 3d model for it. Can find one on Alibaba, but thats just an actual part. I see lots of boards with just the SATA power connector being sold on various websites so its gotta be out there.
I figured out how to “import” new libraries, symbols, footprints, and 3d models. Done it for a Mini SAS and a SATA 7P+15P connector. Works great, 3d model and everything.
I can start looking into creating my own part, but how would I know the correct sizes for a particular part if I don’t have one?
Other option for now is to just use a 4 pin drive power molex connector if I can find that, but would prefer to use the SATA power connector if possible.
Don’t seem to have the SATA 15pin power only part that I can see. I’m just using a part that another person made, but don’t know if it will be the correct sizing, etc. once get a part from somewhere.
I could also just use a 7Pin+15Pin connector I guess and don’t hook up the 7pins.
Like in this picture.
Actually near the bottom there are two and it even includes a Through hole right angle! But no models. I would imagine all are almost the same so I could make my own off of the measurements in the PDF I guess and then when it comes to actually making the board first try and buy the connectors and make sure they are the same.
Thanks!
PS: That was in response to RaptorUK’s excellent find a little earlier. I’ll search for that part # and see if I can find any models.
I’m surprised its so hard to find. Found another forum with someone asking the same questions a year ago. Its a popular part for SATA backplanes and other projects that need power. Might be the easiest and cheapest way to simply put another SATA 7P+15P connector in and don’t connect the data part? If I get to the point where I’m ordering the boards the manufacturer probably has their own contacts and they might have something, I’ll check if I get to that point. Could also try exporting the EasyEDA generic part they have I guess?
