Return path DRC?

Wondering how feasible this would be and if it’s been considered for development.

Adding a feature to the DRC that checks each trace has an uninterrupted path along GND close by. For example highlights if you’ve crossed a split in your ground plane.

Also cool would be a routing mode that automatically draws a GND trace on a different layer as you route (not sure how to handle vias with this though)

Nice idea, but not so easy to implement.

This is fairly easy to do visually with the tools already in KiCad.

One trick is to use a grid size and fill-zone settings combination that ensures there is enough room for a copper pour to do what you are asking.
