Repeat layout - bug?

I’m using the repeat layout to make a 7 segment layout. Whilst a previous bug that stopped me being able to use it appears fixed, I’m having a new issue. I would attach my project file but it says I can’t as I’m a new user.

In short…

  • Digit 0, rule area defined.
  • Digit 1, dump footprints onto the PCB, generate a rule area.
  • Repeat rule area from Digit 0 onto Digit 1.
  • The shape, the routing, orientation all gets duplicated. BUT. The segments aren’t in the right order. e.g. the top horizontal (SEG A in Digit 0) appears in some other random position and a different SEG is at the top horizontal.

To try and resolve I’ve deleted the sheet and copied Digit 1 into a new hierarchical sheet but I get the same issue - correct format but wrong positioning of each unit.

I raised your trust level, try to attach again.

Thanks @eelik , PSA.

Hi, which version of KiCad did you use? I recall fixing a very similar bug in 9.0.2.

OK, that’s a genuine bug. Will be fixed in the next minor release, thanks for your contribution to KiCad.

Best,
Tom

PS. For future reports, would you consider using GitLab? Higher chance we’ll notice them

Fantastic, thank you, really appreciate it. Roughly how often are the minor releases please? This is v9.0.2+1, release build.

Fixes will be immediately in daily “testing builds” (which is different than “nightly builds”). They are bugfixes only, therefore pretty safe to use, and you can even change back to a released 9.0.x version from any 9.0 testing build.

Amazing thank you, way faster than I’d hoped!

You seem to have reported to the issue database. It’s OK to give a link to a forum discussion there, but reports should be self contained, including all information and files. When a report is discussed here, we appreciate a link to the report.

Sorry, best of intentions and apparently none of the skills!
