This is a little off topic but relevant to separation/isolation
of PC Board layers in KiCad.
Sometimes I need to work on a specific layer completely isolated.
I use the ‘eyeball icons’ on the right to turn all the other layers off.
Click the little arrow just left of the remaining layer ‘eyeball’
so it is the one ‘active’ for edit.
Then I can edit an individual layer, add to delete in it.
If I want to delete the entire layer I just ctrl+A del or better yet,
ctrl+A → then ctrl+X (“cut”) and then what I highlighted/cut
is stored in the clipboard.
I can ‘bend’ the board layers quite a few times and still have the layer stored
in clipboard to retrieve and paste.
Windows 10-11 allows multi clipboard instances.
For me it was like finding out what the “right button mouse context feature”
was for the first time!
DUPLICATE BROWSER WINDOWS
If I need to swap when copy/paste, as a workaround I just minimize the active window
and right click on another file of same program type to be ‘opened with’ and utilized
and then I can switch between browser windows.
Some programs allow it some don’t — KiCad does.
NOTE:
Since it is not possible to open the same filename.ext
in another browser windows at the same time
In order to work on the same
(schematic*.kicad_pcb)
or
(pcboard*.kicad_pcb)
just make a backup copy with a different name
EXAMPLE:
Original filename.kicad_pcb
Backup: filehame_bak.kicad_pcb
BACKUP (PLAN ‘B’)
Oy Yeah! BTW I now always first save an extra copy of my
“filename.ext” as “filename_bak.ext” when I know?
I’m about ready to ballistically strike my left metatarsals
by venturing where NO ONE WOULD GO!
