Ref Des 'disappeared' how to undo

I am new to KiCad, but not layout software.

I have been working on a layout, reference designators were visible and selectable, all on the front silkscreen layer.

They are no longer visible or selectable. If I highlight a footprint, I can see the refdes, but not select it. Ctrl-A will show me all the refdes on the silkscreen layer, but I can not select it. Checking the properties on each footprint shows that the refdes is selected to be shown.

I generated Gerber files, and all the refdes are there on the silkscreen layer.

Any suggestions as to what I did wrong??

What are your selection filter settings?

The object appearance tab is where I disabled the refdes! Thank You!

I was poking around to see what the various options did, and I missed the change from that one click. Thanks again!
