Is there a way to simply print the current PCB View to a PDF File? I have to export a bunch of images for my thesis and couldn’t find a way to print a pcb with the zones removed for example.
You fill have to unfill the zones Ctrl-N and the PLOT to PDF, selecting the layers that you want to see.
I you need images for your thesis, you may like to export to SVG to do some nice retouches in Inkscape and then save the image.
Thanks! A “print current view” button would be useful, might add a feature request.
Perhaps clarify your meaning?
Print current window view as clipped image? (screen dump to clipboard). Windows has a keyboard shortcut for this…
There are also screen capture utilities.
Or render whole pcb to image file, as in print/plot.
A screen dump is not sufficient for a printed article, it usually looks blurred and doesn’t scale well. A vector based PDF is much more suitable. If not vector based then at least a high resolution image.
Example:
I want to print all my front footprints and my front copper layer to a PDF file. What I usually do is select the corresponding layers in pcbnew and check how that looks. Then I click on plot/print where I have to select all the layers I already selected in my “current view” again. A checkbox or button there, that simply selects everything I already have active in pcbnew would speed up that workflow. Not to mention that there are some view functionalities like hide zones or only show front footprints that aren’t available in the plot/print dialogs.
