Preventing connections through area on footprint

I’ve created a custom footprint that includes an area of copper that connects a number of pads that I don’t want to have to define connections to in the schematic (so connecting to one pad actually connects to four), however when I export to freerouting and run autorouting there, it routes connections right through the copper area. I can add excluded areas manually to the PCB layout, but really this should be associated with the footprint – is there any way of achieving this?

How is the copper area designated? If it is a pad it should have a number and traces not designed to connect to it shouldn’t cross it.
