I’m using a symbol for a potentiometer with 3 pins, but the footprint I selected has 5 pads, 2 additional ones for mechanical mounting. This causes errors because those two extra holes aren’t connected to anything. Is there a way to mark them as ‘no connect’ to avoid these errors?
Does the manufacturer recommend grounding these by any chance?
unsure, doesnt really say. https://media.distrelec.com/Web/Downloads/_t/ds/PTV09A-4020F-B105_eng_tds.pdf
You can use the: Device / R_Potentiometer_MountingPin schematic symbol.
Ty, that was the solution!
This type of a pot is PCB mount only, not supported by a nut and attached to a panel.
They are for mechanical strength, not for grounding as such.
FYI…
I use Bourns Pots and Encoders quite often.
Bourns uses Common ‘Family Features’ on many parts thus making them User Friendly/Adaptable…
The same Part can have Threads or None but, the Pin’s are still for PCB as are the Mounting Tabs.
Example: This it their PEC11R Encoder Series compared to the User posted PTV09 Pot.
With and Without Threads but, same Pin Contacts
