There’s actually a backlog of merge requests and other work waiting for 6.99…so it’ll quickly become what everyone wants to use anyway. lol.
I am interested when fileformat changes kicks in? I see bunch of commits, in v6.99, sime of them are related to graphic objects, so wondering if is it safe to use now?
They can happen at any time now with 7.0 development started. Probably nothing major yet but some tweaks are planned.
If you want a stable format…just stick to 6.0.
Hopefully a 6.0.1 Testing build will be put up soon. I can see these arcs causing file format changes, which is the non-negotiable difference in major versions. Some of the DRC additions might make it into a future “6.1” if they don’t affect the file

6.99’s file formats have already changed.
Thanks to everyone who have been involved in this thread. Unfortunately (for me) I have recently suffered some turmoils in my private life which have prevented me from rejoicing about 6.0 which we have waited for so long. Even the final announcement here was made by somebody else… But I’m glad the thread seems to have become important for the community, and the developers were active here which certainly is also important for the user community. This is Open Source at its best, I think.
I have been active here – in the forum and in the issue database and elsewhere – even though I haven’t used KiCad actively for some time. Time will tell if I will need KiCad again professionally, and I don’t do electronics as a hobby. Being part of this wonderful project and Open Source community has driven me to continue. I’m not sure how much I will have time, energy and motivation to continue at the same level. Jeff already started the new “post-v” thread.
So, thanks again, and exciting new year with new KiCad features, either with the new stable or with the development branch.
