Plugin manager "unable to load repository url"

I am working on a fairly fresh install of Kicad 8.0. When I click on the “Plugin and Content Manager” button I get a popup that says “unable to load repository url”.

Things I have tried:

  • confirming I can access the url in a browser (yes, I can)
  • rebooting
  • updating from 8.0.0 to 8.0.1.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Are you also getting an SSL error with it?
