Placing vias on filled copper region created with "Draw Rectangle" tool

Cannot place vias on copper filled region, even though the region has an assigned net. I can drop a via on a trace with the same net as the copper region and then move the via to the copper region. I can also copy and paste multiple vias and place them on the copper region. Is there a reason for this behavior? Is this a bug?

Yes, I think it is a bug, but first:

Graphical rectangles are not the normal way to draw copper that is part of a net. The PCB Editor / Place / Add Filled Zone method is far more elaborate and advanced, and this is the recommended method for adding copper to a net. Are you aware of Filled Zones and their capabilities?

The reason I think it is a bug a combination of a few reasons:

  1. It is quite new to be able to assign a net name to graphical items, and this increases the chance there are still bugs in this area.
  2. Manually placing via’s is not all that common, which further increases chances of bugs when it overlaps with graphical items.
  3. When you draw a graphical rectangle, but do not assign a net name, then you can place via’s on it without problem.
