There are four “phantom” components that somehow were added to the PCB that are not on the schematic. I was adding mounting mounting holes and set a relative origin on the one on the lower left MH. They can’t be selected, identified, or deleted as far as I can tell. They have a color that is not listed in the PCB editor Colors list. I’m assuming these be safely ignored, but how can these be identified and deleted?
It’s never a good plan to make assumptions about such warnings and ignore them. The easiest way in KiCad to use mounting holes is to add them to the schematic first, and add footprint links in the same way as any other symbol.
In your DRC message window I see “extra footprint” but also “Duplicate footprints”.
The purple color of the small 4-leaf clover thing looks like the “locked item shadow”. You can probably select it if you add a checkbox for the “Locked Items” in the “Selection Fiter” in the lower right corner of the PCB Editor.
I think it’s a target:
remnants of a bygone era (previous 7.x), no more available from the UI but still managed if you have a old board that use it.
Probably is locked, try adding locked items to the selection filters, select and press E.
I think it’s better that you get rid of them, afair they could create unwanted behaviours.
Paul and Claudio - you are both right. The DRC reports no errors or warnings now.
Checking the Locked items in the Selection Filter allowed me to delete the strange (degenerate?) locked item target symbol shadows. I need to be aware when leaving any Selection Filter items unchecked after rearranging component locations before updating from the schematic.
Adding the mounting holes to the schematic eliminated the duplicate symbol messages to the existing PCB mounting holes once they were unlocked and an Update from Schematic was done.
Having the new mounting holes be auto-placed on the PCB makes them behave such that the surrounding circular keep-out areas (porches) be moveable separately from their associated holes(!). Both need to be selected at the same time to move them together as I expect.
