PCBNEW goes all white after adding STEP file to one part

Hello All,
I notice a strange issue with pcbnew. When I open the properties of a part, add a step file and hit apply, the entire screen goes white. It seems like the 3d model assignment looks ok (since the 3d viewer shows it), but there is nothing visible on pcbnew. My solution was to save the board, and then reopen it. It looks like all the changes were saved, just the display being messed up.
