PCB view - images do not view or plot correctly

I am using version 7.0.5 and would like to add an image. I have done so and it does appear on the PCB. Looking at the properties the layer is Front Silkscreen. However the color of the image is white and I would have expected it to be the same color as the other Front Silkscreen entities. The image does not plot or print. Looking back at the forum this seems to have been a bug which has been fixed. Has it returned? I have tried both PNG as well as JPG.

Adding images to the pcb is only a auxiliary-function for easier rebuilding older boards (for instance for retro-computing). The picture is not added to the layer-items itself, so the picture is not included in any output file.

If you want to add a picture/graphic to the silkscreen (logo, animated gif, …) you should use:

  • File–>Import–>grahics (for vector-files, dxf and svg are supported
  • the Image converter from the kicad main manager

Thanks very much for the pointer. I used the Adobe free conversion tool to go from PNG to SVG. That works as expected. I placed the PNG onto the board first and used the size gain to size the svg, as that has to be done on placement and cannot be changed with the mouse.

Also note that KiCad has an Image Converter in it’s project manager. It’s a simple way to vectorize bitmaps for use in KiCad. I have not uses it much myself and there are more “advanced” options out there, but it is functional and usable.
