I’m working on a design and with 3D view, I see all parts on the board. However when I export as STL or other 3D modeling program, I only see the PCB. What am I doing wrong?
STL? Where is that in the list?
Have you tried STEP export? As far as I know VRML (If that is what you meant) is probably going to be phased out at some time.
In the screenshot below, the “shapes3D” does not look right.
What is the status of that checkbox for copying 3D models?
In Preferences / Configure Paths there is a KICAD_3DMODEL_DIR which points to /usr/share/kicad/3dmodels/ on my system. I guess that is to be the equivalent of that shapes3D thing.
I did step and it gave me the PCB but not the parts
3D viewer from PCB showed all the parts.
You are using the KiCAD, PCB, View and see the board with parts on it. The choices are at that point to export an image like png or jpeg.
Is that what you’re trying to get? If so while in the PCB 3D viewer, click on file then choose the export. You only can get a rendered version from 3D viewer, but look at the 3D viewer options and you can find more features — like being able to see the layers without the PCB base material, etc.
The issue is the 3D view vs STEP export (STL is a typo)
