An AI engine stated that support for OBD++ formats were planned in 8.0.7
Is this true? If so, is that for import, export or both. And does the nightly build support OBD++ now?
Thanks all
no…
the 8.x series will not receive new features as the existing feature set defines the major number.
Why would you ask such a thing to “Another Idiot” instead of coming here or discord, or looking at Gitlab to determine
- whether 8.x would receive any new features
- it is planned
This link should explain all: https://gitlab.com/kicad/code/kicad/-/issues/2019
If you follow the links posted, towards the bottom of this request, you will find that ODB++ should be available in Kicad 9.
Kicad 9 will probably be released in early Feb. if its release follows previous release timelines.
No insecurities here, just us chuckling at people running with LLM hallucinations without critical thinking.
major.minor.patch versioning. A patch release will never, ever introduce a new feature, bug fixes only.
On the other hand, I don’t understand why people should hide the fact that they don’t know everything beforehand, come here to get answers, and tell they have used AI. What’s better, to trust AI, or come here to get an answer from a human afterward?
The real problem is, or may be, that answers given by AI bots are quoted here, because it may lead to model collapse, and people can’t always see what’s AI generated and what’s not. Asking for confirmation here isn’t a problem.
Well, thank you for some better replies.
jmk, I appreciate the link and found it informative. My primary need is for OBD++ as an input. I’ll be wanting to take Xpedition outputs into KiCad. I’m not familiar with Xpedition and am looking into their alternative output formats and seeing if something will align with what KiCad accepts.
Currently only exporting is supported for 9.0, and no import support is planned at the moment. You could open a feature request for it.
Craftyjon, thank you for the added information. I’ll add the enhancement/feature request.
