Noob question - linking library devices to footprints

hi,

Sorry, I have a noob question.
I’ve managed to create a new library with a device, and also created a footprint separately for the device.
The footprint was saved as a ‘.pretty’ and ‘.kicad_mod’. Inside the footprint editor I can’t find the actual library of the device…

Question:
how do I link them ? I can load the device in eeschema, but how do I specify which footprint to load for the PC Board ?

Actually just found this video:

around 9 minutes in seems to be the solution ?

you are right -
make sure you read the getting started guide… there is all the basics explained there.
alternative to pcbCV you can ‘predefine’ the footprint at the properties of the symbols-
just right click on a symol and select edit.
than there should be a Field named ‘Footprint’ as Value you can enter the path and name of your generated Footprint. (just first look at some automatically filled Footprint-Values - than you get how to fill it)
but you first have to add your new Footprint to your Footprint Librarys in Pcbnew!!
(done in Pcbnew: Preferences - LibraryTables)

hope that helps.
sunny greetings
