No display on Windows 8

I have been using Kicad a bit on Windows 7 with no problem.
I tried to use it on a Windows 8 unit and I get the following behavior:
Kicad.exe starts OK and you can select a project (i.e - one of the demo projects)
But trying to enter each one of the applications (schematic, board etc.) brings up a blank screen - the menus and toolbars are displayed, but in the drawing area nothing is displayed and nothing actually works (trying for example to draw a line)
Is this a know problem and is there a solution?

Does Windows 8 have a compatibility mode like 7 did for older programs? Does that work? I know that’s not a great solution, but if it works…

There is compatibility mode in W8 - however following your advice I tried it without any success

OK, Solved, after a lot of playing around.
Eventually I noticed that what I was actually getting is the display in such an enormous zoom that all I saw is black - In one occasion it showed part of the drawing, which was huge and did not let me to zoom out, and I also noticed that the text was reversed. This led to the following attempt:
My windows interface language is Hebrew.
When the Kicad language is set to default there is the problem - switching the language to English solved it.
Don’t know why this affects the display is such a way - but it does.
