I need to generate a company logo footprint to add to the silk screen layer of my boards. I’ve tried converting both .jpg and .bmp versions of our logo using bitmap2component.exe. I’ve exported the output to .kicad_mod file format and added it to my logos library. I’m able to bring up the logo in the footprint editor and the logo looks fine, but when I place it on my board the logo itself just isn’t there. The reference designator and component name are there, but the logo itself is not. Has anyone come across this same thing?
I’ve tried using both .jpg and .bmp files. When I tried to use a .eps file it doesn’t seem to accept that format. I’ve tried to use the “Negative” output with no difference seen. I’ve attached a screen capture of the logo in the footprint editor.
I did a simple search for that name, found a picture in png format, changed it to a .bmp with “drawing” (a simple linux pixel program) and then used KiCad’s Image Converter to turn it into a footprint.
Addition:
I also loaded that logo in the footprint editor and it has been vectorised, which makes it a bit easier to tweak details. But if you want to do so, there is certainly much better software to do that then KiCad’s footprint editor.
I also found this other logo (below) Is it related?
Hi Paul. Thanks for your help. I ended up getting the same result with the logo you created. I’ve tried adding it to an existing layout. I’ll try generating a new design and use it there and see if I get a different result. I can bring these up in the footprint editor and they look fine there, but when I place it I can only see the reference designator and the component name. I’ve tried zooming in and out but nothing is visible. Can you give me a clue regarding the other conversion apps you’ve seen or used?
Perry
I tried adding this logo to a new design and it worked, so maybe there’s something funky with the older design I was trying to add it to.
Thanks to everyone who posted suggestions. Your help is greatly appreciated.
