Net class graphical indicators

the net class graphical indicators in the pcb just disappeared, what may have happened?? you can see it when I start the router in the video (video is 100% quiet so no worries about audio settings) it appears as it should again (the ring around the pad showing set net class isolation), its Mac OS 15.6.1 and kicad 809 which has worked very well for a long time until now, when using v9 it works good again but i have to wait for upgrade to 9. isn’t this strange?

i changed (replaced) 8.0.9 to 8.0.2 and not it works again, 8.0.9 did work very well until yesterday when I started this post, this is odd so today I will step it up again, install next and next until it may stop working again. what does come out of this I don’t know. yesterday 8.0.9 was tested in 3 different Mac OS, 13, 14 and 15 and kicad 8.0.9 acted the same in all (I also tested deleting the settings files in user/preferences/kicad/ folder).

ok I tested in different versions from 8.0.2 and upwards – and today all works good again! I asked ChatGPT about this and this was the reply: “KiCad 8.0.9 on macOS (13.7, 14.7, 15.7) had worked fine for months. Yesterday clearance outlines suddenly disappeared — even across different OS versions — and several reboots plus deleting all files in ~/Library/Preferences/kicad/ didn’t help. Switching to 8.0.2 brought them back, but 8.0.9 stayed broken. Strangely, today 8.0.9 shows outlines again without any changes. Looks like a temporary Metal/driver cache issue in macOS rather than a KiCad project bug.”

I don’t know what this explanation really means but now it seems to work again. this was a true waste of time.

To clarify, the pad clearance indicators appeared* to be missing? The diameter of the ring around the pad is often defined by net class clearance settings, so I’m assuming that’s why this is titled “net class graphical indications”?

To check: is Show Pad Clearance turned on in the settings? Preferences > PCB editor > Display Settings? Alternatively, are you in a high contrast mode? (probably not, just in case you modified the opacity manually). Deleting the settings folder entirely probably should have reset both of these, so sounds like that didn’t help…

Anyways I’m glad it is working, perhaps these suggestions will be helpful if it happens again.

thanks yes I had Show always enabled all the way and was not high contrast mode.
