In the builtin libraries, why do the names of all footprints of microSD card connectors contain the letters “HC”?
I thought that microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards have the same shape/pinout/connectors?

Probably whom ever contributed these footprints listed them as such, and no one has ever bothered to compare the varieties to find out if they all have the same footprints.
Library staff are few and labor is voluntary.
If you wish to compare the various types and confirm they are identical, you can help improve Kicad Libraries by reporting the information to https://www.kicad.org/libraries/contribute.
