Moving foot prints

Hi, can I move a footprint and have any traces that are already made to it move with it ? as opposed to leaving the traces behind? to sort of shove things around (within reason) to make the PCB smaller

Sure.

In Pcbnew just drag your mouse around an area and it will select any traces & footprints that are fully enclosed by your drag action.
Then you can click on a highlited part and drag the whole selected area around.

You can also right click on the highlighted area and then:
Select / Filter selection.
This brings up a menu which lets you (de) select parts of your selection.

I think the OP wants to shove the parts with intact connections, such as pushing a trace around. AFAIK that’s currently not possible.
