I saw a design where mounting holes were used in stitching instead of vias. For that purpose i need to assign a net to them but i can’t find the option to it.
Any help?
Mounting holes for via’s ???
Just because you saw something somewhere someday does not mean it was or is a good idea.
Currently there is no way to change the netlist in the PCB, and I do not see any reason why you would want to.
Via’s are the normal way to make connections between the front and back sides of a PCB. Do you have any reason for not wanting to use them?
Maybe you missed that via’s can be any size. You can set the default size for via’s in each netclass in: Pcbnew / File / Board Setup / Design Rules / Net Classes
I always use vias, i just want to experiment and get familiar with KiCad in details.
There are two kinds of MHs in the libraries, with and without connection.
Are you sure they are “mounting holes” instead of just larger vias;
Instead of using a mouting hole why not use a larger via. I do this all the time to increase the current handling of the via
If it was an older KiCad design that he saw then, yeah they might have been mounting holes. From before dropping loose vias was possible. Now that dropping loose vias is a tool-bar button away, those old kludges for via stitching should be avoided.
