More granular 3D STEP export

Hello,

I am trying to export a fairly complex PCB design from KiCad v8.0.7 to STEP and I am importing this to Onshape. The problem is that in the export, there is no intermediate step between the board contour and full PCB objects including traces.

This results in huge model, which Onshape has hard times to deal with. However, having the possibility to select contour, mounting holes, pads, vias, and traces selectively would completely solve the issue.

Also, the capability to export silkscreen is something I miss.

Any hints are sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

Best, Steve

You can get this in the nightly /what will become V9 in a few months. Make a copy of your design and then open the copy in the nightly for export.

Hello,
thanks for the reply, how can I install the nightly version of the Kicad or beta version of KiCad v9? I cannot found it.

Thanks

On Windows? Download the latest x86_64 or x86_64-lite (no libraries) here: Downloads | KiCad EDA

Tell me how to integrate a 3D model of a component into a board file in this version? It’s clear with export, but not with import. There is no direct export to the board file or do I need to change the default path for each model?

Sorry I forgot to specify, for Mac os.

I have no experience with Mac, but the nightlies are here: Downloads | KiCad EDA

You find this by scrolling down on the download page at KiCad.org.

When you open the installer, just drag the KiCad directory to something other than the Application directory, otherwise it will overwrite your existing installation.

I have KiCad8 and KiCad9 directories in the Applications directory, for example.
