According to the blurb for Ubuntu Core 24.

Ubuntu Core 24 (UC24) is the latest Ubuntu Core release, and is built on the foundations of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat).

With 12 years of Long Term Support, our strictly-confined OS enables developers to build production-grade images for embedded devices on various architectures.

Embedded devices huh? Is this the first time you’re running it on this platform? Maybe the embedded thing is suppressing menus? Or maybe there’s some option suppressing it?

Yeah, using an IoT OS to run KiCAD does seem a bit strange…

Interesting thought, trying other software shows the menu items but only when the pointer is placed over the menu bar. So even that seems a bit odd. Pointing towards some sort of Ubuntu setting, investigation required.

This behavior is what MacOS does when an application is running in Full Screen mode. The menu bar is hidden until the mouse is moved to the top of the monitor.

For a few library version reasons, Ubuntu 24.04 is a better choice. The previous 22.04 is two years older and has ancient versions.
