Seems like the MacOS Download (Nightlies + Testing) lists have got frozen again. Last update available today: 30 Jul
There is probably a single person doing the packaging for the fruit brand OS, and I do not know whether he visits the user forum.
What’s is “Fruit Brand?"
Apple (the brand with the fruit name/logo)
Oh.
Well, then use the word “Apple.”
Or, MacOS.
Unless this board devolves into childish name-calling, like “penguin brand” or “Microsquish.”
They don’t like name calling on this forum.
It’s my compromise. I don’t like that brand at all but still try to be friendly towards the people who use it.
Nobody cares what you personally like or dislike.
Please be kind and calm, guys, better for everyone
Are you all OK with deleting this off topic stuff?
I am not a moderator, but do have some limited superpowers.
I could also split it off, but it does not seem worthwhile to preserve it.
Deleting posts without consent is also not my way of working. Such deleted posts are probably still preserved in some dark and moist git dungeon.
I think this topic should be online as the MacOS Download lists are still dead. One interesting question: If the one and only guy who develop KiCad for mac by some reason disappears, does it mean KiCad for Mac is dead?
I don’t know if it’s a single person doing the packaging for the fruit brand. That was just a guess. But if it is a single person, and he buggers of to some other sort of interests, then “dead” is a big word. It’s more likely that simply nothing happens (apart from automated scripts doing their own thing) until someone else decides to take up the scepter and continues the good work.
On my Linux Mint box, KiCad-Nightly is also broken for quite a while. Libraries still update but the binaries are stuck on 2024-05-06T18:07:05. Linux Mint has no official support from KiCad, and I have not reported this anywhere. I am also running older Mint 20.3 (Still current). Apparently the packages for Mint 21 do get updates. Maybe it’s a dependency thing. I’ve been thinking about a fresh install (Mint advises against an upgrade) but it’s not very important for me at the moment.
I just wonder this as you said “There is probably a single person doing the packaging for the fruit brand OS”
After a short look around in:
I see at least three names, and two of those are well known often recurring names throughout KiCad. There probably are more, but I have simply not looked any further. You can probably graph the whole git history if you’re interested. KiCad developers (and maybe packagers too) have a tendency to not test patches very thoroughly. They move on to the next bug, feature or issue quickly and go back when problems are reported.
Good to hear it’s at least more than 1 person for MacOS so it’s not suddenly just abandoned because Linux is the only future for KiCad! I have no idea what a “packager” is as well as I don’t really need to know, I guess. I’m a simple, maybe lazy and maybe stupid user on what I think is a beautiful operating system which is named MacOS
I just mentioned I saw more names. They may have been just comments.
So you start a thread about packaging, but don’t know what a packager is? That does indeed sound lazy.
You’re free to have that opinion but I suddenly lost interest to respond further.
That’s all fine, thanks for your help in this and other topics, paul, and have a good weekend.
Ubuntu download is working at the moment, but was not working for at least a couple of weeks, not long ago.
8.99 is a case of waiting 'till someone with the ability has the time and makes the effort. It is a testing program only, and warnings are given.
Patience is the key to using 8.99
Thanks for the update, jmk, I was wondering about this as we’re a bit “spoiled” with updates (the download list is updated very often/almost every day) so I was reporting this in case it’s more MacOS users seeing the MacOS list has stopped updating, and this way maybe a developer sees it too and get it fixed in case it’s something simple. I saw the windows list updates about every day, which most of the times is about the same for MacOS list, so…
9 Aug update: The download lists for MacOS is up and running again—thanks for this!
