Lost my KDE kicad icon(s)

Am running the latest linux version of kicad
Application: KiCad
Version: 5.1.5+dfsg1-2~bpo10+1, release build
/usr/bin/kicad works fine
However, the KDE plasma kicad icon that I had placed on the K taskbar disappeared, leaving there instead a 2-shades-of-gray checkerboard pattern. It no longer links to /usr/bin/kicad, so I can no longer start kicad by clicking there.

I am not going to reinstall kicad in order to retrieve this icon. Does anybody know of some place(s) on my hard drive where I can search for kicad icons ?

Is it still in the menus? You might be able to drag and drop a copy to the desktop.

No, the kicad graphical icon disappeared from the K->viewport menu system.

I tried dragging kicad icons from eeschema, from pcbnew, and from the main kicad viewport, the way you said, to the desktop. Didn’t work.

I got a kicad icon back on my desktop after shutting off my computer and restarting it. I dragged that icon onto the K taskbar with my mouse and copied it there. Problem solved.

I also discovered where the kicad icon is stored. Program icons are stored in the directory /home/user/.local/share/plasma_icons/.

Had the same trouble. Good thing I saw your post. It saved me a lot of time browsing for a solution. Thanks!

paul@dualcore:~$ locate kicad|grep icon

gives me several hundred results, among which:
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/mimetypes/application-x-kicad-pcb.png
/usr/share/doc/kicad/help/en/images/icons
