I’m slowly starting to do some more serious work with V5.99.
One subject I’ve always been a bit uncomfortable with is the locking of tracks. The ability to lock tracks is a good option, and I also acknowledge different people have different preferences here. Personally I find nag screens for wanting to move locked items a nuisance, but without them the parts would not be locked at all.
So now an idea popped up to have different locking levels. A “severe” lock, which is just as it now is. It locks tracks and footprints, and you have nag screens if you want to overrule it. That stays.
My idea is to add an “intermediate” locking level. I do not know (yet) what this means for footprints, but for tracks it would be useful. The intention is to be able to move or drag a track (or whole net) just as it is now (so no nag screens), but as an extra that it does not get shoved around by the interactive router.
I like the interactive router very much, but in some situations it keeps on shoving some tracks into zones that I want to keep wide because of current handling areas. Locking tracks around such a zone seems to severe.
If such tracks (or whole nets!) can be set to an “intermediate” locking level, then I can move them as I wish (there are some connectors intersecting the zone) and still be confident that the zone is intact a few day’s later.
This “intermediate” locking level is probably also useful in other situations.
So I’m asking for opinions here.
Would you give such a feature request an upvote on gitlab, or am I being troubled by a wondering mind too much again?
