Ive had an issue with coilcraft inductor placement using L_1008_2520Metric Footprint 1008HQ (2520) High Q Ceramic Chip Inductors | Ceramic Core Chip Inductors | Coilcraft has the pad dimensions as a maximum of 2.54 mm wide but the standard footprint in kicad has the pad dimensions of X 1.25 and Y of 2.2 and from the centre of 1.075 or 2.15 and the measured spacing is 0.9mm the recommended footprint from coilcraft has the dimensions of the pad as 1.02 by 2.54 and a spacing of 1.27 what this means is the coilcraft part is wider than the footprint and as a consequence it does not have a reliable connection. it was only when I looked at the part I discovered the dimension are about 10% too small this is exacerbated by the pads having round corners again an issue in high frequency designs
Could you draw a diagram of the problem? By quick look of the datasheet, the footprint pads seem in order (though the PnP cap means this exact series needs a wider courtyard than a “traditional” chip inductor).
The clearest thing will be to draw the 1008HQ geometry on top of the existing footprint in KiCad and do a drawing something like this: Dimensioned footprint drawings · Wiki · KiCad Libraries · GitLab.
Note that the library footprints are based on IPC calculations for parts more like a Murata DFE252012C:
So they may not be 100% suitable for quite different shape of the Coilcraft part. In particular, Coilcraft recommends more side fillet, possibly (this is a guess) to compensate for tolerances in the lead placements relative to the epoxy placement cap.
