KiField says "There are no field values to insert!" (SOLVED)

I’ve used KiField successfully before, but today it’s not working for me.

I do this:

kifield -g -x Transmitter.sch -i Transmitter.xlsx

and I get this:

There are no field values to insert!

Any idea why it’s saying this, or what might be wrong?

I’m using KiField 0.1.12 on Mac OS X 10.9.5.

Never mind. I hadn’t yet clicked on the “Annotate schematic components” button in KiCad.

It makes sense that KiField can’t work if the components aren’t numbered. It just wasn’t immediately clear from the error message.
