KiCon mailing list?

I just found out that I missed KiCon Europe 2024 even though I live in Germany. I don’t want to miss KiCon Europe 2025. Is there a mailing list like devlist@kicad.org? An RSS feed? A website that’s sure to be updated that I can drop in changedetection.io?

https://kicon.kicad.org/

Announcements are also posted on Mastodon at @kicad@fosstodon.org and various other social media.

There is no email list just for the conferences.

I saw that but it doesn’t seem like the best website to put into change detection. I also saw this but it’s out of date. I don’t have mastodon.

Just put an entry in your calendar about a month or two before to check the interwebs.

Mailing lists are becoming harder because of spam. They get your IP listed way to often.

The forum is already RSS capable.
https://forum…kicad.info/latest.rss I think is correct.

I don’t know if you can do this category specific and I don’t have time to look right now. If so, @ChrisGammell , maybe we need to have an announcement category?

Nah, the problem with mailing lists is they fall under GDPR compliance. Meaning we need to now pay for a commercial service to handle it because we sure as shit don’t have the time for it.

But also most server hosts block sending email traditionally because of spam so even that’s another hurdle but usually just a support ticket to unblock. Lol

The forum can be read over RSS, that’s correct. I’m not sure an announcement category makes sense outside of the top banner. Are you thinking people would only subscribe to that? In my experience looking at the deliverability of the emails coming from the forum, most people don’t click anything that’s sent.

I saw the banner for KiCon Asia, but I don’t want to miss it because I didn’t visit the forum for a while.

I think it’s different if someone opts into subscribing to an RSS feed for announcements.

Are there any other ways to stay informed? I imagine I’m not the only one who didn’t know about KiCon. I subscribe to the KiCad youtube channel. Actually, this would have been perfect, but it’s the wrong continent for me.

Personally, I would be happy if this were kept up to date. I could throw it in changedetection.

Thanks. Throwing that in my rss reader.

Yeah. IF, and I don’t know if it is possible, they could subscribe to an announcement category it would be useful for folks that only visit occasionally. That seems to be a lot of our membership. But how many would subscribe to it? I still have an RSS feed but I’m a dinosaur.
