KiCad (Windows) - Dark mode

Dear development team, after recently testing the development version kicad-nightly-9.99, I was surprised to find that a dark mode has been implemented. That’s amazing. I’ve been wanting this for a few years now! Would it be possible to implement this dark mode in the kicad-9.0 version before its development is finished? That would be fantastic! Thank you.

Introduction of new features only occurs with major releases. I doubt anyone wants the possibility of a whole new set of bugs occurring in the middle of a stable release.

If you absolutely, positively, must have a dark theme; install a suitable Linux alongside your Windows OS then install a Linux version of Kicad into that. Dark themes for Kicad have been available for some years.

Below is one of many dark themes available with Linux Mint:

+1. Dark Mode in KiCad was one of my motivations for installing Linux Mint this weekend. (The other motivation is MS telling me I need new PCs to install Win11).

Yes, I know that. But the 3D mouse - Space Navigator - doesn’t work in Linux. Is that true?

Sorry, no idea. I know nothing about space mouse.

I am using 9.01 and my schematics have a dark (0,0,0) background. Because I like to see my symbols and wires, I use lighter colors for those.

Matters could be worse. LTSpice uses a default gray background. They could make matters even worse than that by making all wires and symbols gray also.

Not sure how much it would help but here is my color theme:

Nope.

Due to stability concerns and multiple bugs still needing to be fixed, 9.0 will not receive the update.

SpaceMouse support is only in Windows and macOS. The only platforms supported by 3dconnexion (the developers of the spacemouse).
