Kicad v6 and 3D models

I notice that as installed the 3D models data is loaded into the footprints as only VRML versions , but the STEP models are also there , why not load these in , so that the STEP export works

Secondly the issue is awkward to fix given the libraries are read only and very tedious to do

Also in an existing design , is there any way in V6 to force the update of a footprint from the one on the board rather then only from the master library , ie make changes to the 3D entries on one footprint and push it to all similar footprints on the board without having to update the master library part ??

For your first issue (VRML vs step), check this box in the step export window:

You need to check this box, which allows the automatic use of the STEP models. No need to touch the libraries.
For some reason the default is unchecked.
