Are there any instructions on how to update to the latest stable Windows version of KiCAD?
In windows I just uninstalled the old version ( My custom libraries and project files were in a diff location) and Installed the new setup.
I am running Windows 7, 64-Bit
I’m running KiCAD under Win7/64 on three different machines. For both the current “stable releases” (e.g., “kicad-product-4.0.3-x86_64.exe”) and the “nightly builds” (e.g., “kicad-product-r7029.cc2b358-x86_64.exe”) I simply run the downloaded installation file. I haven’t had any problems that I’m aware of.
A dialog box warns you that KiCAD is already installed and the new installation will overwrite the old, which is not a problem unless you have modified something (a footprint library, Help file, etc) without changing its name. Beware that the installer will put the new program into a default directory, rather than the actual installed directory; change the installation path if you keep KiCAD anyplace other than “C:\Program Files\KiCad”.

To add to @dchisholm:
the installer won’t change settings in fp lib file:
C:\Program Files\KiCad\share\kicad\template\fp-lib-table
Nor in any of the ini files here:
C:\Users\JonDoe\AppData\Roaming\kicad
As far as I’m aware.
