Hello to the Community
I recently explored the new integration between KiCad and PartsBox, and it’s a significant change for anyone managing electronic components—whether you’re a hobbyist or working in a more professional setting.
PartsBox is a component inventory and project management system that also supports purchasing and selling. It automatically pulls in part specs (likely via Octopart), and while it’s a paid service, there’s a free tier designed specifically for hobbyists and makers.
From their official announcement:
KiCad Integration: You can now use your parts library in KiCad, and your imported BOMs will have all parts matched exactly. See Settings | CAD Integration and the User Guide for details.
As a hobbyist user myself, I’ve tested this integration and found it incredibly useful. You can link your inventoried components directly into KiCad using its database library system—streamlining your workflow and reducing manual errors.
This is just one example of how KiCad continues to evolve and expand into enterprise-level environments. If you’re already using PartsBox or considering it, this integration might be worth exploring.
Just to clarify: I’m not affiliated with PartsBox in any way, nor do I work for them. I’m simply sharing my experience as a user.
Have you tried it yet? Please share how it’s working for you!
