Quick question… In both Schematic and PCB, is there an option to have the cursor/cross hairs not snapping to grid, unless a component is selected, placing a track or wire, or any other functions where alignment to the grid is required.
No,
but holding the “Ctrl” key down disables the snapping and the grid at any time.
Exactly the opposite I was searching for.
I think that this would be so much more practical and straightforward.
Thanks for the reply.
Ah, I understand your comment.
To do what you wish, you could go into Preferences > Preferences and then Display options for each of the four Editors (Symbol, Schematic, Footprint & PCB) and change “Snap to Grid” to " When Grid Shown".
Next go to Preferences > Hotkeys > Common, and about half way down the list is “Show Grid”.
Assign a hotkey for that function then using that hot key to toggle the grid on and off will produce the result you wish.
If you like the result, you could request your function on Gitlab through Kicad Help > Report Bug.
