KiCAD cursor ghosts on ubuntu 18.04

Is it normal?

i had tryed to reinstall the program. it wasn’t helping me. I have computer on ubuntu v18.04 OS. if i bad speak english, sorry for that.

I saw on http://bugs.launchpad.net/kicad some reports about segment fault on Ubuntu 18.04. Please report there, I think the nightly version is already fixed.

The problem you are encountering is cursor ghosting. It seems to appear from time to time on different operating systems. (I had it once on fedora for nightly builds. The stable release worked fine back then. Right now both stable and nightly work well on fedora.)

You might want to create a bug over at the bugtracker as it could be related to some system library changes between ubuntu 16.4 and 18.4. This might interest the packaging guy.

Ubuntu ‘might’ be using the same old version that Debian uses for the stable release. I know using backports in Debian allows you to use the latest stable. Click on ‘help’ and let us know what version is reported.

pcbnew crashes when launched. I have a strace log but cannot upload.

Changed the title
Cyrillic user name too, but more likely another Ubuntu 18.04 library “upgrade”.

Please report this to Ubuntu (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kicad/+bug/1769220). They are not packaging the correct libraries for KiCad in 18.04LTS.

SOLUTION: Download and install KiCad directly from https://kicad.org/download/ubuntu/

Why has the status of that bug changed to “no longer affects kicad”?

I don’t see that status on the Ubuntu tracker (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kicad/+bug/1767652). Can you post the link?

Last “post” in the original link you posted above.
But it might simply mean that that one person removed the “affects me” flag. (Not sure any more what that last post could mean.)

Someone (or the Janitor) linked the bug to the project KiCad from the project Ubuntu. That post just means that the user removed the link between the KiCad repository and the Ubuntu bug report.

I have seen 4.0.7 not working on 18.04 getting closed because it is an Ubuntu packaging bug, not KiCad.

Meanwhile the Ubuntu developers have managed to close it from their end as invalid by saying that the 18.04 was a beta and not the release.

No one wants to own this.
