Kicad crashes when opening tutorial1.erc in xed (linux Mint 18)

Hello,
I’m new to KiCad and I’m following the French tutorial “Démarrer avec Kicad”.
When I try to create the ERC file, KiCad asks me for a text editor: I choose xed that is the default text editor in Linux Mint 18. The erc file opens, and KiCad closes… If I try the same thing an other time, I have to choose the editor again, and KiCad crashes again.

Here is what I get in dmesg:

[ 3176.270672] traps: kicad[5380] general protection ip:7fb9c36ffc72 sp:7ffeba94a060 error:0 in libwx_gtk2u_core-3.0.so.0.2.0[7fb9c3284000+5f9000]
[ 3288.278790] kicad[7872]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp 00007ffd578adb28 error 14 in kicad[400000+11b000]

I can go on with the tutorial if I don’t make that, but I write this post hoping that it can help.

My version of KiCad is 4.1.0-alpha+201608311446+7107~49~ubuntu16.04.1-product, release build

Please tell me if I should have post somewhere else, thanks for reading.
Stéphane

https://bugs.launchpad.net/kicad would be the place to get the dev’s attention to this kind of problem.

Have you tried to assign another editor?

Have you tried to assign the editor like this?

I just tried this on Windows 4.0.3 and it copes with notepad++ in Program Files (x86), unusual characters in a file name in a path with spaces in directory names

Thank you for this answer.
I tried other editors, but it’s the same behaviour. Then I selected xed with the menu as you suggested, and everything is Ok now.
I’m going to put it on Launchpad, it’s new to me but we must learn something every day, isn’t it?

Best regards,
Stéphane
