Like in the title, I install my KiCad 8.08 (Windows 64-bit 64x, Github, Worldwide vesion). And when I try to open the application, it gives me the prompt of data collection opt in request. (attached image) And when I clicked either Yes or No, nothing happened. And when I try to open it again, it just gives me the prompt again, then nothing happened, it just looping.
I have same issue.
it seems kicad 8.0.8 install program has something jagged up. I try install 8.0.7 and it solve every problem I had on 8.0.8
@speak_now_orange Can you try installing the latest 8.0 testing build, without upgrading the VC redist first?

It is not an issue if both @huh and @speak_now_orange know what you are talking about or otherwise have solved the problem. I have no problem with 8.08. But some of us (at least I) have no idea what you are talking about…
8.0.8, Bob. You should know better. (For 20+ characters and )
You also have me lost. I do know wurst, but I already had supper.
UPDATE:
Google tells me that that refers to Visual C++…
My post is designed to not explain what “VC redist” is, but you will understand what it is and that you shouldn’t install it if you’re coming from the other thread (Kicad 8.0.8 won't working in certain PC)
Explanation is more than what I was seeking. (And I was not looking for Deep Seek ) I was only looking for a spelling out of the abbreviation. (And we all commit abbreviations, so I was also not even intending to complain.)
In the interest of all users of this forum, I was seeking to get the abbreviation spelled out, because perhaps I am not the only one who was left with a “???”. I then did not get a response in an hour or two so decided to try googling it.
BTW I note your italic emphasis and also do not quite understand that, either. But I am willing to let that slide…
“VC redist” here refers to “Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable”, and its installer file is literally called “vc_redist.x64.exe” on X64 Architecture (should I also explain what X64 and Architecture means in Microsoft’s terminology? )
Without emphasis on “designed”, the sentence would read as:
“My post is designed to not explain what “VC redist” is”
So, focus on the second part, while I want it to be on the first part of the sentence.
I think that the safe underlying assumption is that anyone reading this forum has installed KiCad. During that process, I believe I saw a dialog box which referred to
Pretty much spelled out like that. So I think that simply including that full name would have been a big improvement for those of us who are not programming-inclined.
I have known for years that my laptop uses the X64 Architecture, but I do not know where I need to look to see
You can download it from Microsoft’s website, but you don’t need to.
You’re not supposed to install it manually to use KiCad.
I do not want to re-install KiCad right now in order to remember exactly what I see. It was not manual on my part, but there may have been an option to de-select that install.
Anyway I did see that it was happening…

Anyway I did see that it was happening…
8.0.8 and older installers bundled and installed this “vc_redist.x64.exe” automatically, but now there’s an issue with this method (@marekr can probably explain in details).
