KiCAD 8.0.5 - test pad not grouped + question for centering vias

Hello,
Sometimes, one of my test pads could not be grouped with other items (tracks / vias) selected one after the other. This happened at several places on the pcb, but not all.
I tried again using a global selection, which worked fine with the test pads that weren’t grouped using the above selection method.

Also, and if this doesn’t already exist, could a via centering option be added for centering vias being placed on component pads ? It would also be great to center such vias using a simple key combination (like Alt+C) instead of typing their X/Y coords. This way, one who disables the centering option can still do it where required.

I do not understand your via grouping problems. Is this related to being able to select footprints? You can grow a selection by holding down [shift] (click or drag left right to add stuff). By holding [Control] the new stuff gets toggled into or out of the selection. With both [Shift & Cntrl] items are only removed from the selection.

For your “via centering”. Experiment a bit with: PCB Editor / Preferences / Preferences / PCB Editor / Editing Options / Magnetic Points

The problem happens after growing the selection using the [shift] key as you describe.
I made several groups on my pcb, of which three contained two test pads, a few vias and several components. Clicking on the groups highlighed every part except those containing test pads, where only one test pad was part of the group but not the other one.

Thanks for the magnetic points. Totally missed that yesterday. Still, it would be nice to allow a key combination to center the vias when desired, even if your magnetic points options aren’t always enabled.

The test points in blocks thing may be a bug.
Can you create and post a small test project for this? This allows us to experiment with and verify it. And maybe make a bug report on gitlab too.

Edit: eelik is probably closer to the cause. I missed the pad versus footprint thing. (or more accurate: I thought about it, but forgot again during writing of my post).

I’m not sure if individual pads can be grouped together with other board items. Maybe you need to select a footprint but you have selected a pad.

Indeed I must have selected pads as selecting their footprints doesn’t reproduce the issue. Sorry about that. :flushed:
