KiCAD 7.0.1 and Freerouter plugin

I installed the Freerouter plugin from the KiCAD 7.0.1 Plugin and Content Manager.
Trying to run it fails with a message about java 1.7 or greater must be installed.
My Windows 11 Pro PC has java 1.8.0_361.b09 which is the latest.

Using Freerouter.jar from LayoutEditor does not throw an error.

Sure that’s 1.7 and not 17? See below.

The Freerouter.jar from LayoutEditor is very old. Recent versions are at GitHub - freerouting/freerouting: Advanced PCB auto-router

That might require a recent Java. I don’t know which the old world version 1.8 corresponds to in the new world OpenJDK, maybe Java 8. Java versioning is a dog’s breakfast. My Linux distro which uses OpenJDK is up to Java 17 and the latest available is Java 20.

As Oracle now charge for Java on anything except private use and I am not a Java developer, I have switched to OpenJDK from Azul.
