Kicad 6 environment variables

Trying out V6 on my existing V5 files and finding the the 3D models are missing. It seems the names of the folders had changed in at least some instances so the easy solution would be to have a path variable that references my V5 ( and user) models.

Now, I see there are several variables which look suitable to include user models do this viz KUSER_3D_DIR, KUSER_MOD and KUSER_SYMBOL_DIR,

So I’ve set KUSER_3D_DIR to point to the old files but there are still not found. Is this a bug, an uncompleted feature or am I just wandering off the into the woods here?

Is there a better approach?

Win 10 64 bit

I had the same, I just selected all the parts and then did ‘tools’ ‘update footprints from library’ and then select update all footprints.

I’m not sure if we talk about the same topic but could you please spend a look at my issue?
