Using MacPorts I installed KiCad on M1 Max MacBook Pro and and can confirm it is running natively (ARM64, not Rosetta2) and working perfectly fine.
Installation was a single command (even easier than downloading and running the installer):
sudo port install kicad
It took a while to install (MacPorts builds it from source), but there were no issues at all.
Literally all you need to do is:
1- install MacPorts if you haven’t already (see directions on the MacPorts site),
2- Run the sudo port install kicad
in Terminal and go have lunch or something.
3- When MacPorts finishes, type kicad
in Terminal to start the program.

Caveat, we do not support the macport install and only care about our official package. Buyer beware
