KiCad 4.0.7 and the new 3DViewer

Hello, I just started using KiCad, and it completely blown me away how easy to use, and the powerful 3D viewer is just wonderful. As I was reading the KiCad block, there’s a post from 2016 about a new 3D Viewer, which is merged in rev 6985, but I am not able to find the new 3d viewer in 4.0.7. Is this only available in non-released version of KiCad?

4.0.7 did not get any new features. Only bug fixes.
The new 3d viewer that supports step and has nicer rendering is only available in the nightly build version. (unstable development build.)

It will be available in v5 which should come out within the next few months.
