I would like to create a keyboard shortcut for highlighting the connection net between diffferent components, that would work in the PCB editor (possibly also schematic editor). When invoked on a pin, it would show all the interconnected components with that pin.
However simple it might be, i wondered if there is an option to make it as ALT+left_mouse_button instead of another combination, or single button. Is there a possibility to make such one? I tried doing this through “preferences > keyboard shortcuts” submenu but it does not accept this combination.
keyboard shortcuts are defined in Preferences–>hotkeys.
They include only keyboard keys, not a combination of keyboard + mouse.
But depending on the used kicad version (note: for your next questions: always mention the used kicad version. The answer often depends on the available functions in different versions) you could be lucky (or not):
Preferences–>Pcb editor–>Editing options–>mouse commands–>CTRL
this option enables CTRL+LMB-click for net highlighting.
(Holy smokes. The price on this seems to have gone way up. I’ll be rich!!! )
With it, I swap the mouse button functionality. So my right button is the main select and the left button brings up the context menu in many Windows programs for example.
A piece of software that I use is Foxit .pdf reader. A few years back, they had added the capability of dragging tabs to a separate monitor as you can in Chrome browser for example. But I was unable to do that.
This surprised them. I allowed their “help” desk to briefly take over my laptop controls, and it turned out that their software was not working with my Left-Right mouse button swap.
