Is there a way to draw my schematic symbol art in anything besides the built in symbol editor?
Like, can I draw the symbol lines and arcs in inkscape then somehow get that geometry into a .sym file?

There are some python scripts out there but i don’t know of an svg to symbol translator.

Example for such a python script (written by me, not yet merged into the official repo i think.)

And there is kipart. This allows you to create black box components from a csv file.

It doesn’t have to be SVG --> symbol(.sym) conversion per se, but it would be nice to have any vector art format at all --> .sym

Is the vector art representation used inside a .sym file one-off?

It’s more of an interpreted language and a very limited one at that, lines, arcs and text with no font selection
