Importing Title Block from .dxf

Hi, I have recently started using Kicad and coming from Altium, I am struggling to perform basic tasks like importing dxf title block geometry into Kicad.

I have looked into various posts about Pl_Editor and am thoroughly disappointed with its utility.

Is there a reasonable workflow to import title block geometry from a dxf file, or other non-Kicad file format, and save it as a kicad_wks file?

Thank you for your assistance.

  • I want to reiterate that I am familiar with PL_Editor, I am not interested in having PL_Editor rehashed to me with passive aggressive comments like I have seen in the various other forum posts I have seen.

I a SPECIFICALLY asking what the workflow is to convert a .dxf or non-kicad file into a kicad_wks file.

I am NOT asking how to waste time poorly replicating existing geometry in a lightweight and disappointing ms-paint level PL_Edit drawing editor.
If you are going to post about PL_Edit, don’t respond to this thread.

Once again, thank you for any assistance.
PS: If you do not have a useful contribution, please do not respond. Thanks

It’s the price you pay to save the money you would be paying for Altium.

I’m happy to be corrected but I think Pl_Editor is all there is for now.

When answering question, please read the question being asked before answering. You did not attempt to answer the question being asked. A potential answer would be: Yes this is possible and here is how. Or: I do not know how to accomplish this and I am unable to help you.

Please pick one of the above

I’m trying to help you, I don’t know for certain but I don’t think there isn’t a way to do what you are trying to do.

Of course it is possible, you could reverse engineer the KiCad wks file and write some code to convert a dxf file . . . but even then, if KiCad doesn’t expose the properties or variables you want included in your Title block then you are not going to succeed.

I’m sure you aren’t going to like my answer, but regardless, you are welcome.

Thank you for clarifying your answer and attempting to answer the question.
